Joanne C. “Cathy” Stewart, age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Born in Canton, OH on October 9, 1942, she was a daughter of the late James Chester and Margaret (Bellman) Johnston. Cathy was retired after working at Discover Card for many years.
Cathy enjoyed spending her free time working on word puzzles, reading a good book, and bird watching. She loved animals, especially llamas and butterflies. Above all, Cathy cherished her family and spending time with them.
In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her brother, James Johnston (Jane) and nephew, James (Brad) Johnston and granddaughter Melanie Arculus-Boyle. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Dawn L. Lavoie (Dwayne) of Chittenango, NY, Tara L. Proulx (Dale) of New Castle, and Lisa G. Stewart of Lewes; niece, Carrie Megahan (Dan); 6 grandchildren, Nichole Coyne, Keith Roberts, Mathew Lavoie, Adam Roberts, Dale Proulx Jr., Michael Lavoie and 10 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 2 pm, with Keith Roberts officiating. Interment will be held privately.
