Joanne Kathleen Szymanski, age 65, of Still Pond, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 27, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Constance (Perialas) Szymanski. Joanne graduated from Conrad High School in 1971, followed by U of D with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. She dedicated her career as an HSES Manager with Eastman Specialties Corporation in Worton, MD and was just shy of 25 years of service on July 28, 2018.

Passionate about horses, Joanne worked as a groom for Nick Neilson Thoroughbred race trainer. She also enhanced her skills while working for Richard Dutrow, Sr., who was a member of MD Racings “Big Four.” She purchased several horse farms, first in LochRaven, then Hunt Valley and Still Pond. After leaving LockRaven, Joanne proudly worked for Dr. Thomas Bowman on his farm. She was also a member of the American Thoroughbred Association. In addition to her love of horses, she enjoyed shopping, reading, playing pinochle and working on Sudoku puzzles.

In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Driscoll. She is survived by her aunt Hilda Parialas and many loving cousins.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, 905 Gateway Drive, Chestertown, MD, where a memorial service will be held at 11 am. Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joanne’s name to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
