John “Jack” Forestieri, Sr.

March 27, 1934 - February 18, 2019

          John “Jack” Forestieri, Sr., age 84, of Lewes, DE, peacefully passed away at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, February 18, 2019. John was a devoted husband of 44 years to his wife Patricia. He was born in Wilmington, DE on March 27, 1934.

John lived a full, passionate and healthy life filled with many memorable experiences. He treasured spending time with his family and the occasions and holidays that brought everyone together. He enjoyed helping others, a waterman lifestyle of fishing and boating, bowling, following many sports, and helping the community during various activities while his children participated. He volunteered as an umpire with Lewes Little League, officiated football, and coached baseball. John not only served in the Navy, but also the Marines during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed traveling the world and experiencing various cultures along the way. He had a pure love and appreciation for nature that inspired him to start his landscaping business. He found the greatest peace working outside and bringing joy to others with his creative landscapes, especially those who could no longer labor.

John is survived by wife Patricia; children, John Forestieri Jr. and wife Cindy, Christine Abel, Diane Recinos and husband Edwin, Julie Egolf and husband Brad, Steve Forestieri, James Abel; grandchildren, Leland and wife Rhianna, Courtney and husband Anthony, Erica, Tyler, Alicia, Logan; great grandchildren, Hannah, Oran, Aidan, Blaine, Landon; sister-in-law, Frieda; and nieces, nephews and other adopted family and friends along the way. 

The funeral service, with military honors, will take place promptly at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.  Seating will begin at 12:45 p.m.  Thank you to Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory for their assistance with funeral arrangements.

Memorial donations, in honor of John, can be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Wounded Warrior Project, or a local charitable organization of choice. The family of John Forestieri Sr. sends a special thank you to Beebe Hospital of Lewes, The Jefferson Hospital of Neuroscience in Philadelphia, and their respective constituents for their kindness and care.
