Joseph A. Damiano
Mr. Joseph A. Jitterbug Damiano, age 68, of New Castle, DE, died on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Damiano was born in New York City on January 29, 1942, son of the late Anthony J. Damiano and Stella Petroski Damiano. A drywall installer by profession, he was employed in the local construction industry for many years before retiring from State Drywall.
A dedicated family man throughout his life, Mr. Damiano will be remembered for his great love of all people and his ability to entertain everyone with his exaggerated stories. He especially enjoyed spending time with his precious grandchildren who delighted in having water fights with their beloved grandfather. In his leisure hours, Mr. Damiano also looked forward to going dancing with his wife, feeding his friends the squirrels around his home, and cheering for the Phillies. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and crabbing.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lena Mae Drummond Damiano; sons, Robert A. Damiano (Kay) and Joe A. Damiano (Debbie); grandchildren, Kayla, Sarah, Kyle, and Dustin; sister, Marion Church (Leonard); his Aunt Alice; and many cousins and nephews. He is also survived by his wifes family, including her mother, Florence Drummond, and her aunt, Mildred Sayers, whom he took out to dinner every Sunday, and her aunt, Gloria Davis, who enjoyed joining him, Mrs. Damiano, Mrs. Drummond, and Mrs. Sayers on trips to Delaware Park. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Anthony Damiano. He was also preceded in death by favorite pet dogs, Cosmo, Heidi, and Duke.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 28, 2010, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
