Mr. Joseph C. Walsh, Jr., known fondly as “Joe,” age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
Born in Scranton, PA, on June 5, 1931, Joe was the son of the late Joseph C. Walsh, Sr. and Agnes Milincher Walsh. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 and would later attend Penn State University.
A keen and knowledgeable fan of Thoroughbred horse racing throughout his life, Joe happily made his career with Delaware Park, where he retired as a pari-mutuel official after 41 years of service.
He will be remembered most of all as a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, his daughters, and, especially, his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy A. Hennigan Walsh; daughters, Deborah Ann Tennant of Milton, Kathleen M. Walsh of Newark, Patricia W. Miller (husband David) of Elkton, MD, and Sharon Lewis of Elkton, MD; sister, Eileen Dempsey of Overland Park, KS; and grandchildren, David Miller, Jr., Joseph Miller, Ronald Tennant, Jr., William Tennant, Robert Lewis, Jr., and Kaitlyn Lewis.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
