Joseph Everett Conine, Jr. Mr. Joseph Everett Conine, Jr., age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2010.
Born on Valentines Day, February 14, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Conine was the son of the late Joseph E. Conine, Sr. and Elizabeth Cole Conine. Known as Ed, he served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he met his wife of sixty years, the late Kathleen Stella Conine. They were married on June 2, 1945 in London, England and on May 7, 2010 they were reunited. Mr. Conine also served in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a graduate of Ursinus College and began and finished his 42 year career with the DuPont Company as an accountant. Upon retirement, Mr. Conine volunteered at Winterthur and Hagley Museusms. He was a dedicated family man, who enjoyed his extended family in retirement and was blessed with the joy of great grandchildren. Mr. Conine was an avid sports fan who also enjoyed many hobbies, which included, travel, photography, reading, and gardening.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Conine of Tucson, AZ, and Christopher Conine of Carefree, AZ; daughter, Kathleen Drake of Ringwood, NJ; five grandchildren; and three great granddaughters.
The family of Mr. Conine wishes to thank the staff of Sunrise of Wilmington, which was his home for the last five years.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 3717 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. Interment will be private.
