Larry Michael Smith

November 4, 1957 - November 28, 2022

Larry Michael Smith of Newark, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Regal Heights Rehabilitation Center in Hockessin, DE. Larry had suffered with early onset Dementia for at least 15 years.

Larry was born in South Charleston, WV on November 4, 1957, the son of Ann Morgan-Smith Negstad and the late Clair Maxwell Smith Jr. Larry was baptized as an infant at Perrow Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cross Lanes, WV and was confirmed when he was 13 years old. He was active in the Children’s Choir and the Junior High and Senior High Group as a teenager. Larry was very active in Boy Scouts – first in Cub Scouts, and then as a Senior Boy Scout. He enjoyed all the camping trips with his troop. He attended Point Harmony Elementary School, Andrew Jackson Junior High and graduated from Nitro High School. Larry also attended Delaware Technical College.

When Larry moved to Delaware in 1984, he immediately pursued a job as an electrical assistant contractor with The Dupont Company. He went to school at Delcastle Vocational School at night for three years to earn his Electrician Certification. Larry was an avid reader of both World and American History and loved discussing politics! He enjoyed cooking and loved to cook large family meals with his mom. Larry treasured time at the beach, no matter which one.

In addition to his father, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen M. Smith and Phillip D. Smith, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Clair Maxwell Smith, Sr. and Ruby Margaret Odell Smith; maternal grandparents, Augustus Bradford Morgan, Jr. and Margaret Lea Tinsley Morgan; best friend from childhood, Steven George; and his two best friends forever rescue felines, Cat, and Kitty. He is survived by his beloved mother, Ann and stepfather, Raymond; brother, James Maxwell Smith (Chet Stone); sister, Lisa Beth Lloyd (Timothy); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service for Larry and his step-father, Raymond Negstad (who died on December 20, 2022) will be held at 10 am on March 11, 2023, in the chapel at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313, where they both will be interred.
