Ms. Leah Claire Johnston Lloyd, age 57, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
A native Delawarean, Leah was born in Wilmington on May 1, 1955. She was a graduate of William Penn High School and studied nursing at Delaware Technical Community College.
An animal lover throughout her life, she enjoyed teaching herding techniques to her pet Australian shepherd and agility to her Border Collie. She assisted with a variety of animal rescue efforts over the years and helped transport many dogs in need to foster homes.
As an artist, Leah designed and made jewelry, which she displayed at local craft shows for many years. She was also a member of the First State Mini Club, an organization for miniature doll enthusiasts, and enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her mother, Phyllis E. Sharpley of New Castle, and her sister, Mary E. Johnston and husband, Robert H. Marshall, Jr. of Kennett Square, PA. She was preceded in death by her father, Billie H. Johnston.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in Lower Brandywine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Leah may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004; or to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
