Leona Cherundolo, age 93, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

Born in Old Forge, PA on May 19, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Sopp) Argonish. Leona was a graduate of Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA. Moving to Delaware, she was employed at Governor Bacon Health Center in Delaware City. Most of her life she was a homemaker. Later in life, she was employed by Strawbridge & Clothier and Macy’s until her retirement in 1997.

A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Church for over 70 years, attending Mass weekly. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, gardening and travelling. Leona loved going to the beach, Atlantic City and Delaware Park with her friends.

In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her son, Robert A. Cherundolo, Sr.; grandson, Robert A. Cherundolo, Jr.; son-in-law, R. Steve Robins; and sister, Ann Marie Mandichak. She is survived by her children, John of Cape Coral, FL, Daria Robins of Newark, William of Edgewater, NJ, Andrea Johnson (William) of Middletown, Daniel of Hockessin and Anthony, Jr. (Adriana) of Hockessin; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 4 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Madlyn Lesneski and Barbara DiSimone; and brother, John Argonish.

All services will be held privately.

Daria and I were in same class, My brother Mark and Andrea I think were connected.. my mom worked at Strawbridges !! And of course your mom’s devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. She was a sweet person.
