Lona Lee (Wheat) Watts, age 83, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at home, in her sleep.

Born in Delaware on February 12, 1939 to the late Edgar and Rita Wheat. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Watts, Sr. Lona worked for 50 years at Governor Bacon Health Center, 35 of those years she worked as a psychiatric aide.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lona was preceded in death by her grandmother who raised her, Frances Werner; daughters, Patricia Mitchell, and Mary Jo Watts; granddaughter, Teyonna Watts; and 2 great-granddaughters. She is survived by her sons, John Watts, Jr., and Robert Watts; grandchildren, Dorothy, Mindy, Crystal, Johnny, and Sierra; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Earlene Philower.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 10 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 209 Washington St, Delaware City, DE, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 am. Interment will follow in Old St. Paul’s Cemetery, 112 Jefferson Street, Delaware City, DE.
