Margaret Torbert

Born: 10/19/1924
Died: 4/22/2013

Mrs. Margaret Kershaw Ellison Torbert, known fondly as “Peg,” age 88, of Bear, DE, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013.
Peg was born in Elkton, MD, on October 19, 1924, daughter of the late Charles S. Ellison and Bessie Barwick Ellison. A talented and resourceful homemaker throughout her life, she greatly enjoyed cooking wonderful meals and hosting large and joyous gatherings in her home for many years.
An active volunteer leader in her community, a proud American patriot, and a member of the DAR, Peg lent her support to many worthy charitable causes. One of her favorite groups (which she and her friends cheekily dubbed “Knit and Bitch”) met once a month to stitch warm blankets for the homeless. For 50 years, she also enjoyed meeting every other week at the ChesDel Diner to play cards with her ladies group. Other hobbies included reading and sampling good Scotch in the company of good friends. In her later years, she happily greeted many visitors in her preferred chair in the comfort of her own bedroom.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Frank Kuhn Torbert; son, Scott Torbert, and his fiancée, Jane Myers; and two grandsons who were her pride and joy, Jeremy and Matt.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City, 351 Biddle Street, North Chesapeake City, MD, where visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Road, St. Georges, DE.
