Marie A. Hurd

December 4, 1934 - April 16, 2022

Marie A. Hurd, age 87, of The Lorelton in Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Eddystone, PA, on December 4, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Orville P. and Mary A. (Roberts) Lyons. She retired from Rite Aid after 15 dedicated years of service.

Marie enjoyed crafts including sewing, crocheting and scrapbooking. She especially loved oil painting. Extremely strong in her faith, she was a devout member of Mount Salem United Methodist Church, holding many leadership roles some including, being on the Board of Trustees, chairing the Nurture Committee and a member of the Altar Guild.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard P. Hurd; 3 brothers; and 1 sister. She is survived by her loving children, Vernon Walker, Jr. (Sara) of New Castle, Robert Walker (Elaine) of Coal City, IL, Teresa Cross (Gilbert) of Baltimore, MD, Pamela Stant (Brian) of Milford, and Charles Walker (Daphney) of Elkton, MD; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

On behalf of the family of Marie, a special appreciation is extended to all of the staff at The Lorelton in Wilmington, DE as well as Seasons Hospice, for the kindness, friendship and loving care that was provided to Marie.

A visitation for friends and family will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North Dupont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, 1000 West Ridge Road, Linwood, PA.
