Martha J. Harvilla

Born: 12/22/1924
Died: 11/17/2012

On November 17, 2012, Martha passed away peacefully at Compassionate Care Hospice after a long illness. Martha spent her last few days surrounded by the family she loved, sharing memories and sweet good-byes.
Martha was born in Stockton, PA on December 22, 1924. Her parents were Roy and Anna (Parkinson) Jacobs. Martha was predeceased by the love of her life, George, in 1997 after 52 years of marriage, and by her siblings, Conrad, William, George and Alice Jacobs and Elizabeth Cusatis. She is survived by her much loved children and their spouses – Shirley Fleetwood (Jack) of Wilmington, DE, Robert George Harvilla (Kathy) of Townsend, DE and George Charles Harvilla (Nicole Walker) of Dumont, NJ. Along with her children, Martha adored her 5 grandchildren – J.R. Fleetwood (Stephanie), Mary Spacht (David), Elizabeth Keller (Gavin), Robert G. Harvilla (Lauren Ritchie) and Rex Harvilla and her two step-grandchildren and their spouses – Melanie (George) Missimer and Mike (Mary) Bromwell. She was extremely proud of them and truly enjoyed their company. Martha had a lot of love to give and felt blessed that she had the experience of being a great-grandmother to Riley and Jack Ryan Fleetwood, Gavin and McKenzie Keller and Rob “Georgie” Harvilla and a step-great-grandmother to Grace, Lincoln and Molly Missimer.
Martha is also survived by her sister, Esther Paisley of Titusville, FLA and her brother Harry Jacobs of Hazleton, PA.
Martha has many nieces and nephews whom she cherished as well as the countless people who “knew” Martha through her baking and cooking. She was always ready to bake a cake or a batch of cookies – all you needed to mention was someone’s sweet tooth and she was off to the store to buy her ingredients.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Terry and Ken who made her last days comfortable and serene. They could not have been more kind and caring. They also wish to thank Rev. Volodymyr Klanichka of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church who was both a friend and a pastor to Martha.
A funeral service for Martha will be held at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20th. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702-B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805 to insure that other families are able to experience the blessing and comfort of their care.
