Mary Elizabeth Wilson

Mary Elizabeth (Schell) Wilson, age 87, of New Castle, DE, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at her home.
Born on May 17, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, where she was raised, Mary was the daughter of the late Henry Schell and Charlotte Healy Schell. She was a 64-year resident of New Castle and made her career in food service with the Colonial School District, retiring in 1978.
Active in her community, Mary had been a member of the Minquadale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary since 1953; she held many auxiliary offices over the years and was honored to have been named a Lifetime Member. She was also a member of the Minquadale Civic Association and the Minquadale United Methodist Church. In her leisure hours, Mary enjoyed visits to Delaware Park, and, most especially, spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Fred Wilson, Sr.; children, Darlene Massie (Homer) of Clayton, Fred Wilson, Jr. of Bear, Dennis Wilson of New Castle, and Lynn Pudvan (Dave) of Newark; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Rose, John, Dorothy, Joseph, Arthur, Charlotte, Howard, and Gertrude.
The family extends special thanks to the nurses and staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for their many kindnesses to Mary during her illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, September 19, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
