Mary Jane Vilone

July 20, 1939 - December 26, 2020

Mary Jane Vilone, age 81, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on July 20, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Millard F. and Theresa M. (Rossi) Davis. Mary Jane was always ready for any adventure and relished her travels to Cancun, the Outer Banks, Florida, Australia, Seattle, and California. Her favorite place to visit was Maui, where she married her husband. Mary Jane loved working in her garden and found joy in planting flowers along with taking care of her many trees and bushes. She took great pride in her large orchid collection and adored watching the birds in her yard, especially Purple Martins. Mary Jane also had an extensive collection of Polar Bears. She loved her grandchildren and her great grandchildren “to the moon and back”, a phrase of endearment she readily shared with her loved ones. Mary Jane appreciated time spent with her family, especially the memories she made with her husband, daughter and son-in-law at their beach house in Bethany. She also delighted in taking endless shopping trips with her daughter, Sheri. Beyond everything, Mary Jane’s family was closest to her heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Davis and June Hackney; and niece, Dawn Davis. Mary Jane is survived by her devoted husband, Fran Bailey; daughter, Sheri Wolfe (Dave); grandsons, Eric Wolfe (Vanessa) and Michael Wolfe (Ali); great grandchildren, Dean Wolfe, Liam Wolfe and Natalie Wolfe; brother-in-law, James Hackney; niece, Shannon Hackney; nephews, Christopher Hackney (Angelica) and Adam Davis (Terri); and her Doberman, Phaedra.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Jane’s memory to the Food Bank of Delaware, 222 Lake Drive, Newark, DE 19702 or the Delaware SPCA, 455 Stanton Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713.

  • Mary Jane AKA MJ,Mimi,Sissy to many others, would lite up a room when she entered. I know because I was her husband for 26 years and many years before we married. Mary Jane just made my everyday with her presence. She had a scent around her at all times from the perfume she wore. Make up and dress was always impeccable at all times regardless of the task she was undertaking.
“Hon” ,as I referred to her ,has left the biggest hole in my heart that can ever be fixed or filled. The void will always be there. As you always say I WILL LOVE,LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK “FOREVER.” Your husband Fran

  • Our hearts go out to you, Fran, and also to Sheri and Dave and their family. Mary Jane was always smiling and was ready for an adventure, especially if it involved shopping! She had a green thumb when it came to growing orchids and was a wealth of information and a resource to us for anything related to flowers, shrubs, or trees. She loved to see mountains and talked about ones she saw on various trips and enjoyed pictures of mountains from our trips.
We’ll surely miss our wonderful and thoughtful neighbor. Cherish the memories!
