Mary Jo Goss, age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2021.

Born in Baltimore, MD on November 3, 1941, she was a daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Lowery) Turano. Mary worked as a store manager for Sears for 25 years. After her time at Sears, she worked in the marketing department for Patterson Schwartz for another 25 years. Mary was an active member of the Hens and Chicks Ladies Group and the Newark Senior Center. She enjoyed bowling and tending to her flower garden. More than anything else, Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond W. Goss. She is survived by her children, Stephen J. Goss (Brenda), Lisa A. Goss (Lisa), and Frederick R. Goss (Marlo); grandchildren, Stacey (Ralph), Jennifer (Joe), Benjamin (Cassie), and Emily; great-grandchildren, Bradley (Victoria), Joey, Jayson, Natalie, and Myranda; and brother, John Turano (Rosie).

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, November 15, 2021, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately in All Saints Cemetery.

  • I was so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. Mary and I met at church, along with her daughter, Lisa and my friend, Donna. We had many conversations arriving at church and upon leaving. This may not sound like much, but we shared that church bond, and became friends. We shared some joking, and I admired Mary in many ways.
