Mary Regina (McCormick) Walnock

March 1, 1927 - April 6, 2023

Mary Regina (McCormick) Walnock, age 96, of Cordele Road, Newark, DE, formerly of Shamokin, PA, died on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Shamokin, PA on March 1, 1927, she was a daughter of the late James I. and Sarah (McBride) McCormick. Mary worked for the University of Delaware and retired in 1997 after 20 years and previously worked at Almart department store and Arrow Company.

Mary enjoyed going to her beach house and being involved with the High Flyers Investment Club at the Newark Senior Center. She also enjoyed making Christmas stockings and having Easter egg hunts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary loved playing dominoes and card games with family, hosting family gatherings especially at Christmas, and was never one to turn down a Frosty or ice cream.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund (Pres); grandson, Scott Polaski; brothers, Michael and John; and sisters, Catherine and Jane. She is survived by her children, James Walnock (Ann), Mary Jean Polaski (Fred), Janet Grimes (Mark), and Joann VanHeest; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
