Mary Ruth Caskey
October 16, 1931 - May 17, 2021
Mary Ruth Caskey, age 89, of Felton, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Rumford, ME, on October 16, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (Paquet) Hegarty. Ruth graduated from St. Clement High School, then went to work for Touraine Stores, Inc. in Boston, MA. On February 28, 1951, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served her country for the next 4 years. While in the military, Ruth met the love of her life, Boyd F. Caskey. Following Boyd’s 22 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he and Ruth relocated to Delaware, and chose Felton as their last home. Ruth was a dedicated housewife and homemaker that took pride in raising their 13 children. She loved to knit as well as crochet, and found passion in researching her families’ history and genealogy. Her children will always remember Ruth as an organized and adoring mother.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Boyd Franklin Caskey; siblings, Clarence, Margaret, Robert, George and Richard; and grandsons, Ryan and Timothy. She is survived by her children, Maura Collier, Keith Caskey (Margaret), Howard Caskey (Patricia), Adele Flamm (Howard), Paula Rendfeld (Dave), Phyllis Blevins (Tom), Douglas Caskey (Robin), Terrence Caskey (Paula), Justine Stephanos (George), Christopher Caskey, John Caskey, Patrick Caskey (Cyndi), and Florence David; siblings, Joan and David; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 1 pm on Monday June 14, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. A committal service with military honors will follow at 2 pm in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware.
