Teresa Outten, of Middletown, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, October 21, 2012.
Born in Elkton, MD, Teresa was the daughter of the late Anthony C. Machi and Mae K. Lee Machi. She was a graduate of Elkton High School and made her career with Delaware State Hospital in New Castle, where she retired after over 25 years of service.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Teresa devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. She delighted especially in hosting large, joyous family gatherings and preparing wonderful meals to share. She also looked forward to traveling with her family on cruises to many fun and interesting locations around the world. During the warmer months, Teresa enjoyed spending time around her backyard pool, where she often held pool parties and barbeques for both her family and her many good friends. She loved all animals, especially her pet dog, Penny.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Nelson E. “Reds” Outten, Sr., son, Anthony C. Outten, brother, Cerino Machi, and great grandson, Zachary J. Street. She is survived by her children, Deborah M. Parker (John) of Smyrna and Nelson E. Outten, Jr. (Linda) of Middletown; grandchildren, Angel T. Street (Scott), Nelson E. Outten III (Stacy), Nicholas S. Outten, and Lindsay E. Outten (Walter); great grandchildren, Theresa-Lyn, Nelson IV, Aaliyah, Joseph, Ezekiel, and Olivia; sisters, Geraldine R. Coffman (Sam) of Baltimore, MD and Nancy A. Brown of Dover; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. John Goodill and to Nurse Liz and the entire staff of Vitas Hospice for their many kindnesses to Teresa during her illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, October 25th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 26th, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
