Michael J. “Jerry” DiVirgilis

December 7, 1946 - September 25, 2019

          Michael J. “Jerry” DiVirgilis, age 72, of Dover, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.

          Born in Wilmington, DE on December 7, 1946, he was a son of the late Michael and Margaret (Belville) DiVirgilis.  Michael proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a correctional officer at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, DE, retiring after 35 dedicated years.

          Michael was a lifetime member of VFW Post #3792 in Middletown and the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.  He was a proud Eagle Scout and enjoyed baseball and football.  In his spare time, Michael could be found watching westerns and WWF.  He loved his pets, Midnight and Henry.

          Michael is survived by his wife of 19 years, Edna J. (McNatt) Ruba-DiVirgilis; children, Michele L. Youngson (Michael) of Bear and Anthony M. DiVirgilis (Lorraine) of Newark; step-son, Fran Ruba, Jr. (Heather) of Smyrna; brother, Armond DiVirgilis of North Carolina; grandchildren, Taylor, Noah, Kyle, Kaleb, Tyler, Julia, Joshua and Keira; 3 nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30 am.  Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

          In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
