Mrs. Mildred K. “Mickey” Murphy, age 92, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013.
Mrs. Murphy was a native Delawarean, born in Felton on November 6, 1920, daughter of the late Leon Kent and Clara Rentz Kent. The original owner of the Dairy Queen in Newark, she also worked in education for the State of Delaware, which included seven years with the state’s Department of Public Instruction in Dover and thirty years with the Newark/Christina School District where she served three superintendents as an administrative specialist. She retired in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William R. Murphy, Jr., in 1957. She is survived by her son, William R. Murphy III and wife Kathleen of Brookline, NH; daughter, Patricia K. Murphy of Lewes; grandchildren, William Kent Murphy and Molly Ann Wolff; and great granddaughter, Josie M. Murphy.
Visitation will be held from 9 am to 10 am on Monday, July 15th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm on Monday at Barratt’s Chapel, 6362 Bay Road, Frederica. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
