After all these years since early 1970’s, I have been searching
for Owens Howell with nop success including asking his close associate and Weightlifting partner, the late and Legendary
Lennell Shepard with no clue. I also competed in Olympic Style Weightlifting along with these 2 men. Owens and I competed in the 1970 Junior National Championships in Summer of 1970. Owens was in the 123
lb, Class while I was in the 242lb. Class. We both won Silver Medals, and qualified to. Parrticipate in a 2 week all expense paid Training Camp in York, PA. We roomed and boarded together and stayed in a Dormatory at York College. It was a grand occassion. After- wards later on in the Summer
of that year, we happened upon each other at the front entrance
of the Wilmington YMCA. I was happy to see him. He told me of his endeavor to enlist in the Marine Corps. Since that time, I never heard of or seen him, and searched from time to time with no success. Many who knew of him lost track of his whereabouts. It is NOW finally that I found him here On-Line
! ! ! It is also with great sadness that I find him passed
on with the ages ! ! !…Yes, sad it is ! ! ……My condolences to all of his family ! …..Dave Crew. E-Mail
