Patricia Sandy Bunville - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Patricia Sandy Bunville

October 26, 1934 - October 12, 2022

Patricia Sandy Bunville, age 87, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at HarborChase of Wilmington.

Mrs. Bunville was born in Peoria, Illinois, on October 26, 1934, daughter of the late Samuel Paul “Ted” and Mable Andersen Sandy. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Iowa, she continued on to earn her Master’s degree in Pharmacology. She was employed at Irwin, Niesler & Co. before she and her husband, Dr. Lyle G. Bunville, started their family. The family relocated from Illinois to Delaware in 1970.

Mrs. Bunville, along with the help of her loving husband, stayed very active raising their family. In her spare time, she was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed playing high school basketball, then softball, tennis, and bowling. Once the children were older, she began working on a permanent part-time basis at the University of Delaware as an administrative assistant to Dr. Robert Wood in the Chemistry department. A part of her job that she especially enjoyed was meeting Dr. Wood’s post-graduate students from all over the world and helping them get settled into the Newark area for their studies.

Following her retirement, she devoted her time to improving her golf game as a member of the Newark Country Club. She enjoyed traveling to various parts of the United States and the world, including Thailand, Costa Rica, Europe and many places in between. She treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Bunville was an active volunteer and served as past president of the Newark Area Welfare Committee Food Cupboard Program.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Dr. Lyle G. Bunville. She is survived by her son, Stephen Bunville and his wife, Julie of New London, PA, daughter, Joanne Laudano and her husband, Mark of Orlando, FL, and daughter, Kathryn Welch and her husband, Stephen of Milford, DE; and grandchildren, Kyle Blain, Justine Bunville  (Terry Weaver), Jonathan Bunville, Jacob Welch, and Michael Welch. Mrs. Bunville will also be greatly missed by her many friends and colleagues.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Mrs. Bunville’s caregivers at HarborChase and most recently Bayada Hospice.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 2 pm. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia’s memory to Newark Area Welfare Committee, P.O. Box 951, Newark, DE 19715-0951 or by clicking here.
