Paula E. McDowell

April 9, 1937 - April 17, 2019

          Paula E. McDowell, age 82, of Newark, DE, formerly New Castle, DE, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

          Born in Wilmington, DE on April 9, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Russell R. and Hildegarde M. (Sehl) Essick.  Paula graduated from A.I. DuPont High School in 1955.  She worked for Citibank as a credit technician for 9 years.

          A friend to the community, Paula volunteered at Emily P. Bissell Hospital, where she was president of the Hospital Auxiliary.  She enjoyed vacationing, taking cruises and visiting the beach.  Paula loved working on crossword puzzles.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edward R. McDowell; 1 brother; and 2 sisters.  Paula is survived by her children, Mark McDowell of Houston, TX, Matthew McDowell (Sandra) of Bethany Beach, Dawn Cartlidge of Newark, Michael McDowell of Oceanview, DE, Drew McDowell (Suzanne) of Middletown and Derek McDowell (Christy) of Elkton, MD; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

          A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 noon on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a Celebration of Life will begin at 12 noon.  Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE.
