Pedro de Armas, age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 27, 2019.
Born on December 4, 1936, he was the youngest son of the late Lorenzo and Ana Margarita (Valenzuela) de Armas. Though he was born in Cardenas, Cuba, Pedro was extremely proud to be an American. He was employed by Avon in the Receiving Department, retiring after 28 years of dedicated service.
A devout Catholic, Pedro was a former member of Holy Family R.C. Church and most recently was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church. He was an avid reader who enjoyed his quiet time with a good book. Pedro and his wife loved to travel, especially to Florida. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a dear friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Maria T. (Extremera) de Armas; daughters, Margaret Wallace (Todd) and Melissa Volpe (Anthony); grandchildren, Zachary and Brooke Wallace, Isabella and Elena Garber, and Alex and Ryan Volpe.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Pete had a winning smile and a laugh that welcomed all into any conversation. Pete was happy and peaceful and you felt that when you were with him. His smile was a million miles wide when he spoke of his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his extended family. He was a great friend to have and I will miss him. The love he and Maria shared was a gift from God–and they loved God and you knew that as well from being with them. Pete is now in God’s loving arms with no more struggles. He will get (hound) the Lord to bless those he left behind to be sure only the best is before them. I am grateful and honored to call Pete and Maria friends. Pete is still my friend up in heaven. I will miss him tremendously and thank him for his gift of friendship, his warm smile, and easy laugh.

My late husband and I followed Pete’s journey and his struggle for the past seven years. The kindness and medical treatment he received from his doctors was well noted. It was a blessing to have such care.
Pete was always a kind, welcoming and faith-fulled person, no matter how he actually felt. With Maria by his side and devoted daughters to help and encourage him, Pete manifested a sense of peace that was inspiring to us all. Both Maria and Pete were always so generous to us, as neighbors, friends, and fellow parishioners. We have shared prayers for each other and I felt that love and and support when Joe passed away in June. I continue my prayers for you and know you will feel protected and loved. Pete’s life has been a blessing to us all and you will remain in my happiest thoughts. May you enjoy the peace that comes with knowing your husband and father rests with the Lord.
