Mr. Philip Hutchinson MacInnis III, age 62, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, surrounded by his beloved family at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital after a brief illness.
Phil was a native Delawarean, born in Wilmington on October 21, 1950, son of the late Philip H. MacInnis II and Gloria Thompson MacInnis. A 1968 graduate of Newark High School, he would go on to earn his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Delaware in 1973. For the past 11 years, he was employed professionally as a financial analyst for the Delaware Solid Waste Authority.
Phil was truly passionate about his home state of Delaware and loved spending time in Newark proper. He loved vacationing with his family in Rehoboth Beach and was an enthusiastic cyclist, participating in the annual Bike to the Bay charitable fundraiser. As a master landscaper and talented home remodeler, he generously lent his expertise to his community as president of the Gray Acres Maintenance Corporation.
Well known for his outgoing manner and fantastic sense of humor, Phil won friends wherever he went. He possessed the rare and wonderful gift of making all those lucky enough to meet him feel truly valued, respected, and loved. Most of all, he considered himself a happy, blessed family man and counted his best times as those spent in the company of his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephew.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Faye Leeper MacInnis; children, Heather Robalik (Chris Rogers), Stephen Robalik (Erin), Julie Carter (Ben), and Martha MacInnis Runske (Brandon); sister, Meg Snell (David); grandchildren, Declan Carter and Genevieve Carter; nieces, Erin Snell and Jenna Bretz (Adam); and nephew, Matthew Leeper.
