Prudence A. “Prudy” (Wetter) Saunders, age 77, of Smyrna, DE, and of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019.
Born in Salisbury, MD on December 14, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William George and Marian (Hastings) Wetter. Raised in Seaford, DE, she graduated from Seaford High School in 1959. Following graduation she attended beauty school. After graduating from beauty school, she started her lifelong beautician career at Wanamakers in their salon. While working here she met the love of her life, Dudley T. Saunders, Jr.. She left Wanamakers and opened Aquarius Salon of Beauty in Bellefonte where she worked for many years. Prudy then went to work at St. Francis Hospital working in various departments, leaving to work collections at MBNA. After leaving MBNA she opened Variety Discount in Middletown. Following many years of working, she retired and moved to Florida with her husband. Prudy enjoyed bowling, reading, gardening, sewing, baking and cooking, especially for her family. During the winter she and Dudley lived in Florida and returned to Delaware during the summers.
In addition to her parents, Prudy was preceded in death by her son, Dudley T. Saunders III; and her brothers, William Wetter and Richard Wetter. She is survived by her husband of more than 54 years, Dudley Thomas Saunders, Jr.; children, Lori Miller (Edward) and Wendell K. Saunders; brother, Robert K. Wetter; grandchildren, Amanda A. Saunders (Donald), Tyler E. Miller, Zachary E. Miller and Abigail A. Miller; great granddaughter, Anna Mae Tolson; and fur babies, Heidi and Tipper.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm on Friday, September 20, 2019, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Prudy’s memory to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.

Pru was a special lady who will always hold a very special place in my heart.
We met when I worked for a mini storage business where Pru and Dudley had a unit. My son, Christopher, and her grand daughter, Amanda, worked together so we had them in common in the beginning. It didn’t take long to become good friends with Pru. She was always a pleasure to talk and laugh with.
I’m so sad to learn of her passing. God only takes the best. My heart goes out to Dudley and the Saunders family. I send my love and prayers to all.
