Robert A. ‘Rob” Pierce, Sr.

January 11, 1959 - November 5, 2022

Robert A. ‘Rob” Pierce, Sr., age 63, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on January 11, 1959, he was a son of Virginia (Green) Parker and the late Marvel Pierce. Rob was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. He made his career as a phlebotomy specialist at Christiana Hospital, retiring in 2020, after 45 years of service.

Rob enjoyed golfing, reading, and cooking. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and loved NASCAR. He was the most compassionate, loving man who wore his heart on his sleeve. He cared deeply for his children who supported his every step in his fight with illness. He was Brave, courageous and fought valiantly, like a true soldier. He had so many things to be grateful for in life but nothing compared to how he felt about his children, in which he was so proud, making them that much prouder of him. He was a great man in every sense of the word, and a true Role model to those closest to him. He will be remembered a true hero and a wonderful soul as his loved ones mourn, they also cherish, a truly irreplaceable man who will live on forever in our hearts.

In addition to his father, Rob was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mommy Dot, and Daddy Bob; and siblings, Robin Pierce, and Rita Pierce. He is survived by his loving children, Robert A. Pierce, Jr. (Felicia), Rianna A. Pierce (Jeffrey Gunter), Dawn Pierce, and Nikki Preston; mother, Virginia G. Parker; siblings, Michael Parker, and Amy Lillie (Greg); and nephew, Shane Lillie.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:30 pm until 3 pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 3 pm. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rob’s memory may me be to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711.

  • I was stunned and saddened upon hearing the news of Rob’s passing. I first met him at the old Memorial Hospital in 1983 and worked as a phlebotomist with him at Christiana Hospital for many years. He was funny and laid back. We served together and shared the same birthday. We would always remind one another of another glorious birthday on drill weekend, we would be sure to celebrate after drill. I will always remember to celebrate our day.

  • Dear Ginny, and Robs family,
I just learned of Robs passing (12/28). I’m so deeply saddened. My brother (Joe) and I met “Robby” when we were kids in Clifton Park. We, along with other kids played together constantly. There are more stories than I probably remember. We all went to school together, and many years later, I ran into Rob again working at Christiana Care.
Rob was always a great guy, and always had a smile.
On a side note, Ginny saved my life when I was about 8yrs old.
Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. Rob will always be remembered by those of us who knew him.
