Died: 4/5/2013

Mr. Robert A. Urbston, age 81, of Landenberg, PA, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013, following a courageous 15-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Mr. Urbston was born in Waterbury, CT on August 2, 1931, son of the late Walter I. Urbston and Mary Zanevich Urbston. A proud veteran of the US Air Force, he was stationed in Korea and Japan following the close of the Korean War. In civilian life, he made his career in the petroleum industry, retiring as the foreman of the instrument shop at the former Getty Oil Refinery in Delaware City, DE. Throughout his working life, he was an active member of the IBEW Local 313 in New Castle, DE.
Mr. Urbston was an avid sports fan and a gifted athlete from childhood. He enjoyed both playing and watching tennis, hockey, basketball, and baseball. In earlier years, he also enjoyed league bowling with his team, “El Cid.” He was a talented amateur photographer, as well as a knowledgeable car enthusiast whose classic 1957 T-Bird brought him great joy (and many compliments!). He loved German Shepherds throughout his life and was a member of the Diamond State German Shepherd Club for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Carole A. Urbston-Meth and her husband Jeffrey of Landenberg, PA, and his two grandsons, Isaac and Owen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Urbston Mitchell.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Calvert Manor in Rising Sun, MD, for the excellent and compassionate care given to Mr. Urbston during his stay there.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 11 am. Burial will be held privately.
