Robert Franklin “Bob” Greenplate

Robert Franklin “Bob” Greenplate, age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Born on January 31, 1937, in Newark, DE, he was a son of the late James P. and Mary A. (VanAulen) Greenplate. Bob graduated from Newark High School in 1955, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957. He worked for DP&L for more than 30 years and part time for Sears. Bob was a life member at Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder and also a member of the DP&L Sportsman Club. He will always be remembered as a hardworking individual that was dedicated to his family and community.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his son, David A. Cole and siblings, Edna D. Graves and James T. Greenplate. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Elizabeth C. “Betsy” Greenplate; children, Mary E. Cole, Melissa Carlozzi, Elizabeth S. Greenplate, Robert F. Greenplate, Jr., and Tracy C. Greenplate; sisters, Jane P. Brown and Mary Louise Lee; 6 grandsons; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am. Face masks are required for all in attendance. Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Auxiliary, P.O. Box 148, Newark, DE 19715.
