Robert W. Streets

Born: 3/25/1935
Died: 6/7/2012

Mr. Robert W. Streets, known fondly as “Bob,” age 77, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012.
A native Delawarean, Bob was born in Wilmington on March 25, 1935, son of the late William F. Streets and Florence Krapf Streets. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959, and would go on to make his career as a master carpenter, working with several local contractors over the years prior to his retirement.
Bob was a passionate, knowledgeable outdoorsman throughout his life and particularly enjoyed exploring the rugged beauty of the Catskill Mountains. A gifted tracker and hunter, he was especially skilled in waterfowl hunting. He was an exceptional educator, as well, generously sharing his expertise with young hunters as a founder and instructor in Delaware’s very first hunter safety training course. Bob also found expression for his love of the natural world by carving his own beautiful and unique decoys. Widely collected in the local area, his decoys have been the centerpiece of many sportsmen’s exhibitions and have garnered a variety of awards from his fellow wildlife artists.
An ardent and tireless advocate for responsible stewardship of our nation’s outdoor heritage, Bob was a member of Ducks Unlimited, an instructor for the Delaware Young Waterfowlers, and an Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Clara M. Wilkins Streets; son, Dale A. Streets, Sr. (Kara) of Middletown; brothers, William Streets, Raymond Streets, and Earl Streets, all of Newark; sisters, Marie Golemis of Rocklin, CA, Virginia Evans of Ocala, FL, Nancy Joines of Newark, Edith Cassaday of Pleasanton, TX, and Amelia Dixon of New Castle; and grandchildren, Dale Jr. and Alexandra. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Hockessin Friends Meeting Cemetery, Old Wilmington Road, Hockessin.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713; or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
