Ronald Charles Pochvatilla - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Ronald Charles Pochvatilla

November 30, 1956 - October 21, 2021

The most selfless and caring man, a lover of his family, sports and the Lord.  Born in New Castle, Delaware, to Ronald and Joan (Joiner) Pochvatilla on November 30, 1956, he ended this earthly walk on October 21, 2021, at the age of 64.

Nothing was more important to him than family.  Ron loved family gatherings. Whether it was Independence Day picnics, backyard BBQ’s, birthday parties, family vacations or his infamous Sunday game nights following dinner, he made these events full of love and laughter. He loved to talk with others, tell stories and enjoy others’ company.  It was always joked that he could never go anywhere in New Castle County without bumping into someone that he knew.  He never knew a stranger and treated everyone with kindness.

Ron graduated from William Penn High School in 1974 and made his career as a mail clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 30 years of service. He was meticulous at his job, and he had an incredible ability to memorize addresses and zip codes from all over the world.

Ron was a 42-year member of New Castle United Methodist Church.  At NCUMS, he served as the church treasurer, Meals on Wheels volunteer and was also a member and featured soloist in Chancel Choir.  He was also involved in the Masonic family in several of its organizations.  He was a member of St. John’s Lodge #2 A.F.&A.M. in New Castle. He was a  Past Master Counselor and Past State Master Counselor of Order of DeMolay, and Past Associate Bethel Guardian and Past Associate Grand Guardian of State of Delaware, Job’s Daughter’s International.

It didn’t matter what season of the year it was, Ron was always following a sports team.  His favorites were the Las Vegas Raiders, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and NASCAR.  His love of sports, especially baseball, spilled over to his family.  There were many games attended, road trips and years of fantasy sports teams.

Ron also loved the beach, looking forward to his yearly vacations either at Delaware Beaches or Outer Banks, North Carolina.  This tradition will stay with his family for many years to come.

Ron is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol (Hughes) Pochvatilla of New Castle; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lisa Pochvatilla of Wilmington; daughter and son-in-law, Alison and Aaron Clark of Watonga, Oklahoma; mother, Joan Pochvatilla; grandchildren, Dylan and Jake Pochvatilla and Maggie, Macie and Nathan Clark; and a host of other relatives, nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at New Castle United Methodist Church, 510 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where a celebration of life service will begin at 11 am. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ron’s name to New Castle United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Seasons Hospice for their care and support during this difficult time.
