Ruby Eileen Blankenship

Ruby Eileen Blankenship, age 94, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at the Compassionate Care Unit on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Born near Beckley, WV on May 7, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee and Nancy Loretta (Anderson) Blankenship.  Ruby lived in Wilmington, DE and worked at Continental Can Company, Worthy Brothers Corporation and even continued working for many years after retirement.  Ruby was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and enjoyed many enduring friendships over her lifetime.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Broce and Betty Blankenship; brother, Clyde Blankenship; nephews, Ronald Broce and Kenneth Blankenship.  She is survived by her sister, Pauline Yearsley; brothers, William Blankenship and Ross Blankenship; nieces, Sandy Elliott, Nancy Mahoney (John), Debbie Dempsey (Steve), Amy McCabe (Rick); nephews, Charles Broce (Denise), David Blankenship; in addition great nieces and nephews of whom she was very proud.

Many thanks to Dr. Kathleen Willey and her entire staff for many years of loving care to Ruby and to Compassionate Care Hospice for helping to make the last days of Ruby’s life here on earth comfortable and filled with love and dignity.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 noon on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon.  Interment will immediately follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruby’s name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 701 N. Clayton St. Wilmington, DE 19805.
