Ruby S. Figgatt, age 94, of Smyrna, DE passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 14, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Olivia S. (Lathbury) McDowell. Ruby made her career as an assembly worker at the former Westvaco in Newark and retired from Greenville Country Club as a housekeeper.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading and writing in her bible and journals, and traveling. Above all else, Ruby loved entertaining and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence E. Ramsey, Sr.; second husband, Harold Lewis Figgatt; children, Clarence E. Ramsey, Jr., Wayne Ramsey, Linda S. Scott; and step children, Keith Figgatt and Ronnie Figgatt. Ruby is survived by her son, Jan Wade Ramsey; sisters, Geneva L. Holcomb (Robert) and Betty E. Baynard; step children, Donald Figgatt (Mary Jo) and Sue Tjaden (Doug); 26 grandchildren; and many many great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, October 19, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm followed by a memorial service at 7:30 pm. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 am on Friday morning, October 20, 2017 in the Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christiana Hospital Stroke Program, 47650 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713 or to the Sunday Breakfast Mission, 110 Poplar Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  • I’m so sorry you had to go. I just talked to you last month about not seeing you since the Chinese Restaurant in 1998 . It felt like time stood still while we were talking. You will be missed and loved by so many. Your memories of you in my childhood are very close to me always. Thank you and Bless you!

  • I take comfort in knowing that you knew God and some day we will be reunited. Some of my best childhood memories include you. You were always kind and yet straight to the point. Some of our long conversations about family history are surely going to be missed. I am so blessed that we were able to have so many talks. I am glad that you were able to attend our church on your last Thanksgiving visit. I know how much that meant to you and it meant just as much to us. You are loved and will be missed.

  • Ruby you will always mean a lot to me you treated me like a daughter I will miss our fun talks and outings together and watching our westerns and wheel of fortune together you are with TeX and Linda and the ones who you missed tell em all hi and we will meet again loved you so much

  • Ruby loved talking about the good ole days. Compared to today, they certainly were.

    I want to extend special condolences to Dawn Samis and Teresa Rampersad for taking care of her in her final days. Ruby told me that they both were very good to her and for that I will be eternally grateful.

    Ruby loved her family very much and no one should ever forget it. I for one am certainly glad and proud to know her very well.
