Sally Ann Matthews

February 7, 1945 - September 6, 2018

Sally Ann Matthews, of Middletown, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the age of 73.

Sally was an active member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church family, volunteering for the Angel Tree, Samaritan Purse shoeboxes, Cornerstone Care Ministry, Operation Hope, and Cornerstone Hospitality Team. She also enjoyed helping with church mailings, phone calls, etc.

Through Project Linus, Sally crocheted many blankets for the young patients at the A. I. DuPont Hospital for Children. Sally was also a diehard Phillies fan throughout her life!

She is survived by her twin brother, Randy Owens, aunt, Norma Reid, daughters and sons-in-law, Shannah and Andrew Rubin, and Amber and Mark Robinson. She had seven wonderful grandchildren, Grace, Ryan, Paige, Andrew, Ben, Joseph, and James. Bill W. was a special friend.

Sally would like to thank all her angels at Cornerstone Church and Dynamic Therapy for their support, prayers, and friendship, and a special thank you to Dr. John Goodill, Pulmonologist and Director of Palliative Care, Christiana Care Hospital.

Sally’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Rd, Bear, DE 19701. Please wear bright colors (no black, please!) in accordance with Sally’s wishes.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Cornerstone United Methodist Church at the address above (mark donations “for land/building fund”); or the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 (800-327-4545 / parkinson.org).

  • I am truly sorry to read of the passing of your loved one Sally Ann. Losing a loved one to death is never easy. Especially one so near and dear to your heart. It is comforting to know that she is sleeping peacefully in death as recorded at 1Thessalonians 4:13. She is surely awaiting the time for verse 14 of that some chapter to be fulfilled. This time will surely be made a reality by means of God’s Kingdom in which we pray for in the Lord’s Prayer. Once more I am very sorry for your loss. Please take care.

  • To the family: so sorry for the passing of Sally. We had many a talk and laugh through the years. I know she’s watching over us all and watching her Phillies play.

    Kisses to heaven Sally
