Born June 24, 1940

Sharon Ann Burnham, age 77, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, October 9, 2017.

A native Delawarean, Sharon was born in Wilmington on June 24, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Wilkinson) Kane. In addition to raising her family, she made her career as an administrative assistant with the University of Delaware, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

A devout Catholic, Sharon was a former parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church in Newark and a current parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Elkton, MD. She was exceptionally proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed learning about the culture. More than anything, Sharon was a devoted mother and grandmother who was actively involved in every aspect of her grandchildren’s lives, including attending all of their sporting and academic events. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Lawson D. Burnham; children, Kelly Bacon (Joseph) and David Burnham (Kimberly); brothers, Jack Kane (Olive) and Joseph Kane (Catherine); 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am on Friday morning, October 13, 2017, at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, P.O. Box 345, Elkton, MD 21922.
