Shirley G. Watson

Mr. Shirley G. Watson, known fondly as “Sebe,” of Elkton, MD, was taken home to our Lord Jesus on Monday, June 18, 2012. Shirley died peacefully at the home of his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Marilyn Watson, where he had been lovingly cared for over the past two years.
Age 89, Shirley had a full and active life. Formerly of Port Huron, MI, he was transferred to Newark, DE, in 1962, while employed with the Chrysler Corporation. He worked for Chrysler for over 44 years and also served as a union official for much of his career.
During World War II, he proudly served his country as a radio operator in the US Navy.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing recreational sports, especially baseball, tennis, and golf, even into his later years. He was an avid Scrabble player and enjoyed crossword puzzles and Racko. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his favorite team, the Detroit Tigers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Cecelia C. Seifen Watson. He is survived by his children, Mark Watson, Teresa Chambers (Richard), Shawn Watson (Marilyn), Joel Watson (Clara), and Sheila Hexamer (Mark); grandchildren, Mandy Hall (Rob), Valerie Watson, Christian Watson, Christian Chambers, Rachel Hexamer, and Anna Hexamer; great grandchildren, Alanna, Emily, Autumn, and Connor Hall; sister, Mary Jane Ceil; and good friend and brother-in-law, Bud Seifen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
The family extends their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Seasons Hospice of Elkton for their loving care and support during Shirley’s illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice, 133 N. Bridge Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
