Stephen Eugene “Steve” Petkus, Sr.

January 10, 1950 - June 29, 2021

Stephen Eugene “Steve” Petkus, Sr., age 71, of Townsend, DE, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

Born in Ridley Park, PA, on January 10, 1950, he was the son of the late Eugene and Elsie (Lees) Petkus. Steve proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as an iron worker and welder for Iron Workers Local 401 in Philadelphia, PA, for 20 years, and later for the former Newarc Welding. He was a proud member of the First State Corvette Club. After his family, the love of his life was his ’79 Corvette.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Petkus. He is survived by his wife, Marie P. (McGrath) Petkus; daughter, Joanne Diemidio (Anthony); son, Stephen E. Petkus, Jr. (Jennifer); sister, Wendy Petkus-Mazeika (Jerry); and grandchildren, Connor, Kayleigh, and Sophia.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 2:30 pm. Face coverings will be required for all those in attendance not immunized with the COVID-19 vaccine per the CDC and Governor of Delaware. Interment will be held privately.          

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668 Wilmington, Delaware 19899 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

  • Steve was an amazing waterskiier, too. He could “fly” over the wake! He will be truly missed. Nancy and I are truly sorry for your loss.

  • Steve was the cousin I looked up to as a kid, always funny and strong. We spent many summers with Steve and his friends on our little boat, water skiing and playing in the Chesapeake Bay. My love to all who cared about him.

  • though i had not seen you for many years i remember so well the times spent together especially with the caldwells skiing. you were a great son and skier and from what i heard a good dad and grandad.RIP

  • Many memories brought back by this photo album. Always remember our skiing together. So glad I got to visit with Steve in 2017 during Uncle John and Aunt Nancy’s Anniversary. Thinking of your family.

  • Even though I was pretty young I remember Steve and Richard and Eddie Pepino all horsing around in Maryland together on the Navajaka! He was always nice to a little kid like me and I always think of him fondly. My sincere condolences ❤
