Teresa Flickinger

Mrs. Teresa Flickinger, age 85, of Middletown, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
Mrs. Flickinger was born on November 8, 1927, in Clifton Heights, PA, daughter of the late Helen and Stanley Garchinsky. A talented and compassionate registered nurse, she began her career caring for new mothers in the maternity ward at the former Wilmington General Hospital. She later worked as a counselor at the Delaware State Hospital before accepting the position of Director of Nursing at Newark Manor, where she retired.
Mrs. Flickinger was a devout Catholic throughout her life and a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. She also volunteered for many years with the Meals on Wheels program. In her leisure hours, she enjoyed occasional trips to Delaware Park, Dover Downs, and other casinos to try her luck on the slot machines. Most of all, she was a devoted wife and mother throughout her life, who delighted especially in spending time with “the apples of her eye”: her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Flickinger was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene C. “Iggy” Flickinger, and by her ten siblings. She is survived by her children, Kenneth E. Flickinger and wife Karen of Lincoln University, PA, Gary C. Flickinger and wife Maria of Middletown, Nancy Ward of Middletown, and Paul Flickinger of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and four great granddaughters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 am on Wednesday, November 21st, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
