Terry L. Griffith, Sr.

Terry L. Griffith, Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

He was born on August 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Griffith and Esther V. Williams. Terry attended Benton Area High School. He served proudly in the United States Air Force from 1960 – 1963. He moved to Newark, DE in 1964, where he worked at the Chrysler Corp. before beginning a career in Thoroughbred racing. As an owner/trainer Terry enjoyed over 200+ wins. Terry enjoyed the mountains and had a great love of animals. Especially, his dogs Austin, Tanner and Sugar.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle A. Dzoch; sister, Barbara J. Karns; and brother, Harold “Butch” Williams. Terry is survived by his sons, Terry L. Griffith, Jr. (Stacey), Daniel J. Griffith (Stephanie) and Jerald L. Griffith (Nicole); daughters, Stacey J. Kline (Webb) and Lorie S. Sumner (David); 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carole Zeisloft (Wilmer), Joe Griffith, Gloria Templin (Kevin), Bonnie Reilly (Bill) and Larry Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry’s memory to Old Friends Equine, whose mission is to provide a dignified retirement for our Thoroughbreds, champions and “unknowns” alike, by mail at 1841 Paynes Depot Road, Georgetown, KY 43024, or online at www.oldfriendsequine.org.
