Thelma Hinchliffe Moudy, age 68, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Heartland Hospice House.
Born in Wilmington on December 30, 1943, Thelma was a graduate of Brandywine High School and later attended the Famous Artists School in Connecticut. She was a talented homemaker throughout her life and had also worked as an administrative assistant with BEK Engineering.
An active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Newark, Thelma taught the young children of the congregation’s primary classes for 24 years and was honored to have served as both the primary president and the relief society president. Well known as an outstanding cook, she also provided excellent catering services for church events for many years.
Thelma was a particularly gifted baker and was much-sought-after for her gorgeous wedding cakes and creative specialty cakes. At one international convention of baking artists, she displayed a beautifully designed “Blue Hen” cake representing her native state. She also delighted in creating unique arts and crafts for her church.
In her leisure hours, Thelma greatly enjoyed traveling, especially long road trips with her husband in their RV.
Thelma was the daughter of the late James Willard Hinchliffe and Blanche Hinchliffe. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Editha “Maggie” Hinchliffe, and by her son, SFC James Shawn Moudy. She is survived by her beloved husband, M. James Moudy, daughter-in-law, Myong Sun Moudy, granddaughter, Sandra Rebecca Moudy, brother, Reed Hinchliffe and wife Elke, and sister, Rae Beattie.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 500 W. Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark.
