Victor V. “Vic” Klemas

Victor V. “Vic” Klemas, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022.
Born in Klaipeda, Lithuania on November 29, 1934, he was the son of the late Aldolf and Maria (Kwauka) Klemas. Vic earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1959. In 1965, he earned his Ph.D. in Optical Physics at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany. Victor received an officer commission into the United States Army through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at MIT and served in the signal corps as a first lieutenant. Vic worked at the GE Space Research Center in Valley Forge, PA, where he designed optical systems for space exploration. In 1971, he joined the University of Delaware, where he was a leader in the development of remote sensing techniques and their application to coastal studies.
In addition to his parents, Vic was preceded in death by his son, Paul Klemas. He is survived by his loving wife, Vida M. (Vaisnys) Klemas; sons, Andrew, and Thomas Klemas; and grandson (adopted son), John Paul and granddaughter, Asta.
A committal service for friends and family will be held at 10 am on Friday, May 13, 2022, in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made “in memory of Dr. Victor Klemas” to the University of Delaware, Gifts Processing, 83 East Main Street, 3rd Floor, Newark, DE 19716.
