Vincent W. Bankoski, Jr.

Born March 9, 1944

Vincent W. Bankoski, Jr., age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

Vince was born in Baltimore, MD on March 9, 1944, and was the son of the late Dorothy and Vincent W. Bankoski, Sr. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1965. He enjoyed a 26-year career with DuPont as an electrical engineer.

Vince was known for his quick-wit, eye-roll worthy puns, and plaid shirts. An avid lover of Jazz, Jaguars and all-things Britain, he was a loving father who instilled in his children an appreciation for learning and the value of doing things for yourself. He enjoyed good food, travelling, and prototype sports car racing. As a pup in Baltimore, he was a devoted Baltimore Colts fan who later converted to an Eagles fan. He was forever in search of a deal and the perfect crabcake.

He could often be found listening to jazz (aka real music) while restoring a car in the garage or making sawdust in his woodshop. He seemed happiest when fixing things, some of which didn’t need fixing. He had a gift for seeing the potential in things “ from a pile of car parts to a stack of roughly cut boards. A remarkably talented, self-taught woodworker, friends and family are blessed with his one-of-a-kind handcrafted furniture.

In addition to his parents, Vince was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce C. Bankoski. He is survived by his children, Leann E. Bankoski (Hamady Mbaye), Brian R. Bankoski (Robyn E.), and Vincent W. Bankoski III; aunt, Frances Nina McCaig; and grandchildren, Abdou M. Mbaye and Aidan T., Darby R., and Maeva J. Bankoski.

A celebration of life and luncheon will be held beginning at 1:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2017, at the Deerfield Golf Club, 507 Thompson Station Road, Newark, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vince’s memory may be sent to Junior Achievement of Delaware, Inc., 522 S. Walnut Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
