Virginia R. “Jenny” Flanagan

Virginia R. Flanagan, age 65, of Townsend, Delaware passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2014 after a courageous five year battle with cancer.

Born on June 14, 1949 in Johnson City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late RC Pierce and Anna Mae (Markland) Pierce.

Jenny, as she was affectionately known to many, enjoyed being a homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She cherished moments spent shopping with her daughters and grandsons, always enjoyed watching and collecting movies, listening to country music and playing the slot machines. Throughout her travels, she had a passion for collecting various lighthouses and birds. Jenny loved her family dearly and lived for her grandsons. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, companion, sister and dear friend to many. Jenny touched the lives of many in numerous ways.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Steve Allen Pierce and Timothy Pierce.

Jenny leaves many fond memories to her two daughters, Kelly Flanagan of Smyrna, DE and Tracy Broomall (Steve) of Townsend, DE; her life partner, Steven D. Flanagan of Wilmington, DE; two brothers, Ray Pierce (Sharon) and Michael Pierce (Sharon) all of Townsend, DE; sister, Diane Dooley of New Castle, DE; three grandchildren, Stephen Buddy Broomall (Megan Lane), Tyler Flanagan and Zackary Broomall and her lifetime friend, Danielle Buckingham of Clayton, DE.

Friends may visit with Jenny’s family on Thursday evening, September 11, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where funeral services will be held beginning at 11 am on Friday, September 12, 2014. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, Jenny’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
