Virginia Speer Baldwin of Greenville, DE, and formerly of Kennett Square, PA, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Friday, August 16, 2013.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on April 9, 1920, Virginia was the daughter of the late Clyde E. Speer and Virginia Iris Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, W. Frazier Baldwin, Jr., and her sisters, Elizabeth Speer Schenck and Natalie Speer Weller. She is survived by two sons, Bill (Carol) of Wilmington, DE and Louis (Elaine) of San Jose, CA; daughter, Susan of Winston-Salem, NC; and two grandsons, Christopher and Colin.
Virginia graduated from Chatham University in Pittsburgh. She enjoyed life as a wife and mother and tending to her beautiful gardens. She was employed for eleven years with Books, Inc. and nineteen years with Winterthur Museum. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout troop leader, volunteered for the Delaware Art Museum, and was a member of the Memorial Hospital Board in Wilmington. She was actively involved for many years with the Wilmington Flower Market and with Garden Day.
Funeral services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Virginia may be made to Holy Trinity Old Swedes Church, 606 Church Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
