William A. Barnshaw

March 10, 1931 - February 10, 2022

William A. Barnshaw, affectionately known as Barney, age 90, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2022.

Born in Chester, PA on March 10, 1931, he was a son of the late William and Edna Barnshaw and Melba (Hill) Gravatt. Barney made his career as an assembler with General Motors.

Barney met the love of his life, Dot, at Governor Printz Roller Rink where he was a speed skater and she was a figure skater. Together they made a loving home for their family. For many years, they set up their wares and sold them at the New Castle Farmer’s Market. They enjoyed traveling, spending time at their beach house with their family, and visiting casinos. Barney will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a wonderful friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. (Mioduszewski) Barnshaw; daughter, Judy Lockwood; sister, Irene Worrilow; and brothers, Russ Barnshaw and Wayne Barnshaw. Barney is survived by his daughters, Wendyann Krupa (Joseph) and Ginger Martin (David); brother, Harry Barnshaw; grandsons, Alan Lockwood (Gina), William Krupa (Jaime) and Joseph Krupa (Amy); granddaughters, Carrie Palladinetti (Kevin) and Emily Tucker (James); and great grandchildren, Adriana, Brodie, Mason, Lucas, Ryan and Jacob.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barney’s name to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

  • to the family of lana. i worked with lana at national decorative for a long time. she was a special person. kind and loving. i will miss her. my deepest sympathy to all. my heart is broken.

  • Barney was my buddy at the New Castle Market for years we used to compare stories about our auction and flea markets finds and talk for hours while his dear wife Dot ignored us and read her book. I will always remember him fondly. Hope he is at peace and at a casino winning with Dot. Judy and Jimmy Jones

  • Mr. Barney will truley be missed . i spent many years knowing him at the flea market . When Mr. and Mrs Barney retired it was a sad day for many vendor’s they were always there to help and answer questions any vendor’s had since they had been flea marketing forever.I was so nice to see Mr. Barney once in awhile when he would come to see his friend’s at the flea market. He now with the love of his life Mrs. Barney and they are happy.
