Florence A. Gurney, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 17, 2017.
A lifelong Delawarean, Florence was born in Wilmington on October 8, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Walter Straszewski and Jenny (Lapkicwicz) Eggert. She was a talented homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family.
A devout Catholic, Florence was a longtime parishioner of St. Elizabeth R.C. Church in Wilmington. Active in her community, she was a member of the Hall-Burke VFW Post 5447. Florence enjoyed shopping in her leisure time. She will be remembered as a private, but deeply loving individual and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Gurney. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Gurney; sister, Ethel Polecaro; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday morning, August 24, 2017, in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
