H. Edwin “Ed” Kennedy

H. Edwin “Ed” Kennedy, age 93, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 12, 2014.
Born on May 15, 1921 in Sayre, PA, he was the son of the late Homer E. Kennedy, Sr. and Helen Anna Goeke Kennedy.
Ed graduated from Sayre High School, Class of 1940. On August 12, 1942 he joined the U.S. Army Signal Corp. and spent the next two years attending classes at Pennsylvania State College, Philadelphia Signal Depot Civilian Training Division at Temple, Fordham University and NYU.
While in the US Army Signal Corp., he proudly served his country during World War II with the 9th Armored Division in Rhineland Central Europe. Ed’s tour of duty included the Battle of the Bulge and Liberation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp. During his service, Ed was awarded several decorations including the Presidential Unit Citation, American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
Following his discharge from the military, Ed started his lifelong career in the recording industry. From 1946 – 1960 he served as Chief Engineer of WILM Radio Station. In 1950 Ed launched his own recording company, Ken-Del Productions Inc. which continues to operate in Wilmington, DE after 64 years. He recently fulfilled his dream with the completion of Delaware’s largest commercial recording studio.
On October 15, 1954, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Leap. He and Marjorie then moved to Delaware where they raised their three daughters.
Always active within the community, Ed was a member of the Masonic Rural Amity Lodge No. 70 in Athens, PA, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge No. 74 in Wilmington and served as Vice President of the Big Band Society in Wilmington.
Ed will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched.
In addition to his loving wife of more than 59 years, he is survived by three daughters, Shirl Kennedy Lord (Dirk) of Newark, Barbara Kennedy Bobik (Andy) of Bear and Karen Kennedy Burgess (Liam) of Middletown and nine special grandchildren, Brent, Ryan, Brittany and Victoria Bobik, Brad and Kristen Burgess, Gabriel and Joshua Lotz and Ryan Lord.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday evening, June 18, 2014 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where friends may visit with Ed’s family from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. A committal service with military honors will be held at 10 am on Thursday morning, June 19, 2014 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
