Kenneth J. “Kenny” Oneschuk

April 20, 1956 - November 3, 2017

Kenneth J. Kenny Oneschuk, age 61, of Middletown, DE passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017.

Born and raised straight out of New Castle, DE on April 20, 1956, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Mary Jean (Heckler) Oneschuk. Kenny attended DE public schools, including Castle Hills Elementary, New Castle Middle School (Old William Penn High School), and graduated top of his class from Delcastle Technical High School in 1974. During his junior year of high school, he was awarded 1st place in the annual Vocational Industrial Club of America in the field of masonry.

While he spent most of his career working in construction, Kenny found his niche in the electrical trade. He was a proud member of IBEW Local Union 313 where he retired in 2015. Active in the volunteer fire community, Kenny joined the Minquadale Fire Company in 1985. He was honored with a Gold life membership after 32 years of service and held various line positions, including Lieutenant and Captain.

Kenny was a great cook who was known for his famous ratatouille and using a 2 foot wide frying pan. His many passions included firefighting, fishing, gardening, playing softball, boating on the Don’t Ask, as salt water ran through his veins, but most of all, spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Granny, Harriett Heckler, who he considered to be his second mother. Kenny is survived by his daughters, Melissa Subasic (Indy) and Ashley Oneschuk (Kurt); granddaughter, Jordan Hanna; grandson, Indy Subasic; beloved companion, Vicki Lowman and her daughters, Olivia and Cassidy; brothers, Eddy (Lois), Bryan (Debbie), and Jeff (Lori) Oneschuk; aunt, Sande (Heckler) and her husband, Barry Bowden; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 11 am on Saturday morning, November 11, 2017 at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, Fifth and Harmony Streets, New Castle, DE, where a service will be held at 11 am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kenneth’s memory may be made to the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720 or to the Organ Restoration Fund, c/o St. Peter the Apostle R.C.
