Ralph D. Dowell

Ralph D. Dowell, age 90, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

Born in Cincinnati, OH, on March 17, 1928, he was a son of the late Charles O. and Nancy (Potter) Dowell. Ralph proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was a retired carpenter for Carpenters, Local 8 in Philadelphia, PA. Ralph was a dedicated volunteer at the VA Hospital in Elsmere, serving 10,622 hours, and was a member of VFW Post 5892 in Hockessin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Ann (Merchant) Dowell; sisters, Verta Greer, Hazel Sluter, Opal Wood, Virginia Ailes and Eula Dowell; and brother, Charles Dowell. Ralph is survived by his children, James E. Dowell of New Castle and Richard H. Dowell (Ann Marie) of Clayton; brothers, John Dowell and Harold Dowell, both of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren, Dario Amato, Jr. and Meghan Dowell; and great granddaughter, Evanna Amato.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
